Nepal is minefield free. Finally!

The UN has declared Nepal mine-free, making it only the second country in Asia after China to be completely free of mine-fields. During the decade long civil war, the Nepal Army had laid 53 minefields around army barracks and physical infrastructure like telecommunication towers and hydropower plants to protect them from the Maoists. After the ceasefire in 2006, the Nepal Army began clearing the mines with assistance from United Nations Mine Action Team in 2007. Finally after 4 years, it has completed the task. Progress may be slow in Nepal, but we can definitely see some positive signs for the future!
