Kaski becomes first ODF District. Now for the rest of Nepal!

Kaski has become the first Open Defecation Free (ODF) District in Nepal and this is a big deal for all Nepalis. For us Non-Residential Nepalis this might seem shocking, weird and even pathetic, that in the 21st century our fellow Nepalis still defecate in the open. But this is the state of health and sanitation in Nepal. People do defecate in the open, even in the capital city Kathmandu.

Three years ago, the district council of Kaski had promised to make all village development committees (VDCs) as well as Pokhara sub-metropolis and Lekhnath municipality free from open defecation. Three years later, and after spending more than Rs 330 million, the Kaski District Development Committee has achieved this. Now for the rest of Nepal!
