Citizenship for children of unmarried Nepali mothers too!

In February this year, the Supreme Court of Nepal had issued an order to grant citizenship on the basis of the mother's nationality. This was a landmark decision which allows a child to claim citizenship if either of his parents hold a Nepali citizenship. The Supreme Court has now gone a step further by ordering that if a child wants to claim citizenship on the basis of the mother's nationality, then it is not necessary to ask about the father, which effectively means that children of unmarried Nepali women will also be granted citizenship. The Supreme Court has ordered all 75 District Administration Offices to bring this into practice immediately.
