Nepal to get 10 modern cities.........

The Ministry of Physical Planning and Works has stated that Nepal will get 10 modern cities in all five development regions. It will initially select 20 potential locations from which 10 will be developed into modern cities. The locations are to be chosen in such a way as to develop the mid-hill sections across Nepal. A detailed project report (DPR) on the Mid-hill highway has underlined the following locations as potential candidates - Phidim, Jarayotar, Bhojpur, Ghurmi area, Bhakundebeshi, Kurintar, Kusma, Burtibang, Rukumkot, Chaurjahari, Surkhet, Rakam, Sanfebagar, Dipayal and Patan of Baitadi. The main reason for establishing cities in the mid-hills is to reduce the trend of migration from the hills and the mountains to the Tarai. It is encouraging to see Nepal getting a bit more serious about city planning and development. Let's hope that this is just the start of good things in Nepal..........
