Nepal Army agrees to integrate PLA combatants

The Nepal Army has proposed formation of a a separate entity within the Army comprising 50% former Maoist combatants and 50% personnel drawn from existing security forces. This proposal comes from Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Chhatra Man Singh Gurung and if approved, may take Nepal a step closer towards completing the peace process. If formed, this directorate will have a strength of 10-12,000 personnel and will be responsible for disaster relief operations, infrastructure development, road construction, industrial security, nature conservation and border security.
