China to invest 8 billion rupees in Lumbini

MyRepublica reports that China is to invest 8 billion rupeees in Lumbini to develop Lumbini as an International Buddha Center. The idea is to develop Lumbini as the Buddhist Center similar to what Mecca is for Muslims and the Vatican City is for Christians. This is the biggest project in Lumbini which is backed by private investors from China.

The project proposes to construct a 100-meter Buddha statue, excavate the remaining part of the Maya Devi Temple, construct an international Buddhist Museum and operate green buses in the Lumbini region.

The Nepal Government has already approved the project and once the Chinese Government gives the official 'go-ahead' signal, work will commence. Let's hope that the project gets started sooner rather than later.
