Nepali troops accused of bringing cholera to Haiti

Nepal is one of the leading contributors to the UN Peace keeping efforts around the world. It is currently contributing to the peace keeping efforts in Haiti as well. However, its image has been tarnished by the recent allegations by the Haitian locals that the Nepali troops have brought cholera to Haiti. 330 people have already died and another 5000 are believed to be infected.

The UN mission in Haiti has said that no peacekeeping personnel, including Nepalis, is infected and all tests conducted on the ground in the base have proved negative. These allegations are most probably baseless, because as Nepal Army Spokesperson Ramindra Chhetri said, soldiers have to undergo a "through medical checkup" before participating in the peace keeping mission. So let's hope that the UN mission in Haiti takes all steps necessary to clear these allegations at the earliest.
