Nepal ranks 56th in Global Hunger Index

Nepal is ranked 56th in the Global Hunger Index which rates 84 countries on the basis of three leading indicators -- prevalence of child malnutrition, rate of child mortality, and the proportion of people who are calorie deficient. Among neighbouring countries, China is ranked 9th, India 67th, Pakistan 52nd, Sri Lanka 39th and Bangladesh 68th. Six African countries currently lead the world hunger list, with the Democratic Republic of Congo being the worst, followed by Burundi, Eritrea, Sierra Leone, Chad, and Ethiopia.
