Digital Pirates arrested in Nepal!

It looks like Nepal is also become a bit more aware of digital piracy. Yesterday, Kathmandu Police arrested Abhinav and Dipankar Kasaju, the operators of popular entertainment site www.cybersansar.com, for pirating 3D and HD English movies through their website www.givemehd.com which has now been taken offline. The Kasaju brothers own the "Dreams and Ideas" company and have an impressive web portfolio.

Police raided the company´s office after a news report about the piracy business was published in www.nagariknews.com. The Kasaju brothers had been illegally downloading HD movies using Torrent and pirating them through www.givemehd.com.

The Copyright Act 2002 prohibits illegal selling and hiring of audio-visual materials produced in countries that are members of World Trade Organization (WTO). Nepal became a member of WTO in 2004. Any violation of the act is punishable with a prison term of up to six months or a fine of Rs 100,000.

This is the first such arrest in Nepal that I am aware of!
